Japanese regulators are reviewing some key cryptocurrency restrictions related to the use of stablecoins such as Tether USDT.
Japan’s Financial Services Agency (FSA) will lift the ban on domestic distribution of overseas-issued stablecoins in 2023, local news agency Nikkei reported on Dec. 26.
New stablecoin regulations in Japan will allow local exchanges to handle stablecoin trading provided that assets are safeguarded through deposits and a maximum limit on remittances. “Expanding payment with stablecoins could make international transfers faster and cheaper,” the note says.
