In its latest analysis “In the payment industry, the strongest currency is trust” Mastercard stated that cryptocurrency transactions in Latin America reached 353.8 billion dollars between June 2020 and June 2021. This corresponded to 9% of global transactions. This was detailed in the latest Mastercard report.
The report indicates that 7 out of 10 Latin Americans resort to cryptocurrencies as a means of investment, despite their volatility and price fluctuations. However, Latinos are more resilient as holders due to the inflation that persists in some countries in the region.
Also, when they decide to convert their cryptocurrencies to currencies, they choose to do it through a debit or credit card, and even prepaid. Meanwhile, 33.8% of crypto purchases are made with bank cards.
34% of Latinos access cryptocurrencies through digital wallets and buy on well-known platforms because they seem “trustworthy.”
